Learning...or Echoing?

Wise men and women are always learning, always listening for fresh angles.” - Proverbs 18.15 (MSG)

What an extremely powerful proverb. I believe that this scripture bids the question, How am I doing at this?

I can’t shake the fact that our culture has quickly abandoned this ideal. Today, being a learner that is open to perspective, can abruptly and ironically place you into a category of being manipulated or being a sheep.

Yet, here is a Biblical truth that is telling us how much better it is to be a person who is willing to listen and see things from different sides. Heres a crazy thought, just because you’re willing to listen doesn’t automatically mean you agree with everything you hear.

What might our world look like if we all took on the posture of someone who is striving to learn rather than regurgitate what gets your ears fired-up.

We hear a lot about how social media has created echo-chambers, hearing only what we want to hear, and hating whatever thought may be different from ours. What if we stood in opposition of that ideology? What if instead of surrounding our lives with echoes, we strived to forge a life that looks much more like a ripple? An expansive life, with a far reach. That’s the life I want to live.

Big problems, aren’t solved with small one-liners, but rather with strategy, intention, and focus! If you’re a believer your goal isn’t comfort, its transformation of souls.
